About Lion’s Mane

The Lion’s Mane is called wigwam in Dutch. The botanical name is Hericium erinaceus. The mushroom is a parasitic fungus and belongs to the family of stalk mushrooms (Basidiomycota). It grows on stem wounds of old deciduous trees, for example in parks or along lanes. In many cases, the wigwams grow on beeches, but they also grow on oaks and robinias, for example. It is a parasitic fungus, which means that the tree on which it grows slowly dies. After the tree dies, the mushroom continues to live on the rotting wood for a considerable time.

The wigwam can be found in North America, Europe and Asia. The visible part of the mushroom is officially called the fruiting body. It appears in summer to autumn. In China, the fruiting body is used both as an herbal and culinary ingredient. The fruiting body is white or cream in colour and has long, hanging spines. Normally, the fungus reaches a diameter of up to 25 centimetres, but larger specimens can easily reach 50 centimetres.

Lion’s Mane Drops: the very best tincture through advanced extraction technology

All Dragon Drops formulationsincluding these Lion’s Mane Drops, contain a full spectrum of ingredients and are highly concentrated. This is because they are created through an extensive extraction process using both water and alcohol. The Lion’s Mane, or wigwam, undergoes two rounds of water extraction and one round of alcohol extraction. The extracts from these different rounds are then combined into one. The whole is evaporated to remove most of the extraction solvents (water and alcohol) from the extract. The volume of the herbal extract decreases by up to 95%. Dragon Drops tinctures therefore only consist of the essence of the extract of the 100% natural ingredient. It also combines Dragon Herbs the best of both worlds. The extract contains both water-soluble constituents and alcohol-soluble compounds.

Because of this manufacturing process, Dragon Drops contain substantially more substances than the products of most competitors, sometimes by as much as 1500%. With normal tinctures, what the manufacturer uses in solvents during the extraction process is also what is in the final product. In other words, the ratio of solvents used during the extraction process and in the final product is about 1:1. In Dragon Drops this ratio is estimated to be 20:1. For every millilitre of finished product Dragon Herbs uses about 20 millilitres of solvents. This reduction results in an extremely potent extract.
