Over Ashwagandha

Ashwaganda is one of the most important herbs in Ayurveda. It has been used as an herb for thousands of years. It has even been called "King of Ayurvedic herbs. The name Ashwagandha is derived from Sanskrit meaning horse (Ashva) and fragrance (Gandha). This is considered a reference to the strong earthy smell of the root, the most commonly used part of the plant. Ashwagandha is rich in saponins, phytosterols and bioflavonoids, among others. In addition, compared to other herbs, this herb is also rich in amino acids (mainly tryptophan) and minerals (mainly iron), for example. But its most important and unique properties are due to the high content of withanolides it contains. Ashwagandha contains of all plants not only the highest concentration of withanolides, but also the most diverse composition of different withanolides.
