About reishi, lingzhi and stem fungus
Reishi (botanical: ganoderma lucidum / lingzhi) is a mushroom, or more specifically a fungus. In Dutch, reishi is also called gestalde lakzwam. The fungus grows as a parasite on the root base and dead stumps of various deciduous trees, especially from the maple family. In nature, it mainly occurs in Asia. However, related species also come from North America. Normally, reishi grows on only 2 or 3 percent of all trees. In nature, the mushroom is therefore very rare. That is why today, reishi is grown on wood chips, as is the case for this Vimergy Reishi Powder.
Reishi is also called Lingzhi in China. It is a widely used mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine (often abbreviated to TCM). Here it is used as a universal tonic for the so-called Qi. Science is also currently interested in reishi. Research is being conducted into its ingredients and effects. The active ingredients of reishi that have been found are polysaccharides (such as beta-glucan), sterols (ganoderol, ganoderic acid, ganoderiol, ganodermanontriol, luicidadiol, ganodermadiol) and alkaloids (source).
