Juglen Zwaan (1982) is an orthomolecular physician whose mission is to make people aware of the relationship between nutrition and health.
Very complete reference work of almost 500 pages, in which almost all unprocessed, natural foods are discussed.
The Nutrition Guide discusses in detail:
- The effect of almost all natural foods on our health. These are described from A to Z, divided into vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, herbs, sprouts, lettuces, seaweed, oils, fats, meat, fish, dairy, drinks and more.
- Which foods contain the most vitamins, minerals and plant substances, etc.
- The health effects of the colors in fruits and vegetables.
- The positive and negative role of antinutrients on our health.
- The effects of specific plant substances on our health.
- Which foods can cause side effects, with or without medication.
- The effect of nutrients on our health and how to recognize and supplement a deficiency.
- How much of each macro and micronutrient we should consume daily.
- Which medications can lead to specific nutrient deficiencies and how to supplement them.
- Which foods are better kept in the fridge or outside. Also discussed are which types of fruit ripen and which do not.
- Which vegetables and fruits grow in a particular season.
- Whether a food has an acidifying or deacidifying effect on our body.
- The book contains more than 2000 references to scientific studies.
- What you can eat to reduce certain complaints (the self-help guide).
- And much more!
The self-help guide
A large part of the book covers the self-help guide. This describes what you can and cannot eat for more than 100 different common complaints. The nice thing is that this information comes from the medical literature and that the sources are mentioned. The strength of the evidence is clearly presented, but also the expected effectiveness. What is the best thing to eat for high blood pressure or an out-of-balance cholesterol level? This and much more can easily be found in this book. The book contains much more information, but I cannot possibly summarize it here.
The Nutrition Guide is twice as thick as The Supplement Guide. This comprehensive encyclopedia is a hardcover, which means that this reference work can last for years to help you improve your health. In my opinion, this book should actually be on everyone's shelf, including doctors and therapists. Never before has such a complete work been published on the role of the food that we put in our mouths every day.
About the author
Juglen Zwaan (1982) is an orthomolecular physician and decided to quit his job as a teacher at a secondary school to make people aware of the relationship between nutrition and health. Through seminars, publications and radio interviews he has inspired many people to take their health into their own hands. As a result, he has now become an authority in the field of nutrition, supplements, superfoods and health.
NB: When printing this book, we not only chose sustainable, environmentally friendly paper, we also had it printed in the Netherlands to keep the burden on the environment as low as possible.
