Lomatium root (Lomatium disslectum) is also known as desert parsley, Indian parsley, Ferula dissoluta, Leptotaenia disslecta, Toza, and wild carrot. Lomatium is a member of the Apiaceae family and is therefore related to many familiar edible species such as carrots and celery. Lomatium root is one of the best known of the Petersley family. Many Native Americans in the Interior Northwest used it as a food source. One tribe was even known to make a drink from boiled roots.
