Bitterstern is a powerful elixir of no less than 17 different herbs. The herbal tincture was originally developed by the German Benedictine abbess Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179). In addition to being a philosopher and composer, she became especially known for her vision on medicine. Hildegard explicitly points out the connection between body and mind. She described healing powers that are hidden in nature and gave instructions for total care of people, both preventative and curative. Her books Causae et curae and Fysica are full of medicinal recipes, which, according to scientific research, often also turn out to be correct. Bitterstern was one of her most popular herbal remedies.
How is Bitterstern made?
Bitterstern is a powerful elixir of no less than 17 herbs, namely: lavender, yarrow, angelica, cumin, cinnamon, gentian, galangal, fennel, gentian, dandelion, real marjoram, ginger, bitter orange, cloves, stomachic root, cardamom, Icelandic moss and coriander. These are all herbs that are also known in herbal medicine (phytotherapy) as bitter herbs. What they have in common is therefore their bitter taste. Due to the careful method of production and the high alcohol percentage (59% Vol.), in addition to the bitter substances, the precious ethereal oils (also called essential oils) are also extracted from the aromatic herbs at Bitterstern .
