About Rhodiola Rosea from Gaia Herbs
Rhodiola (botanical: Rhodiola rosea) is also called rozewortel in Dutch. The name is somewhat misleading, because it seems as if this is the root of a rose. However, the rhodiola is not a rose and does not come from the rose family. It may sound strange, but it is a plant from the succulent family. The name rozewortel is 'only' a reference to the rose-like scent of the root.
Rhodiola grows in the mountains at an altitude of approximately 2000 to 5500 meters. The plant is native to the Arctic, the mountains of Central Asia, the Rocky Mountains and mountainous parts of Europe. The extreme weather conditions at high altitude force the herb to “fight” and adapt in order to survive. Rhodiola is rich in the substances salidroside and rosavine. Rosavine is an active substance that only occurs in the most powerful rhodiola species, namely Rhodiola rosea. Salidroside also occurs in other less powerful rhodiola species. It is therefore advisable to choose products standardized on the active substance rosavine, so that you can be sure that you have the maximum potential of the herb. This is of course the case in the beautiful product Rhodiola Rosea from Gaia Herbs .
