Ingredients of Frankincense Fresh Toothpaste
Frankincense Fresh Toothpaste is 100% natural. It consists of the following ingredients:
Coconut oil (Cocos nucifera) – Cold-pressed coconut oil is a true wonder on earth. Researchers at Ireland’s Athlone Institute of Technology call it “the healthiest oil on earth”. It contains seven different natural fatty acids: carylic acid, capric acid, lauric acid, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and oleic acid. Lauric acid has been shown in scientific research to have antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties (source).
Baking soda (Sodium bicarbonate)–Baking soda is a mineral that is abundant in nature. It keeps the mouth alkaline, which neutralizes the acid of the bacteria. People have used baking soda extensively for centuries to brush their teeth. It cleans thoroughly, but is also gentle. It is less abrasive than chalk or silica, which are used in most commercial toothpastes. Edgar Cayce. Dr. Keyes, a clinical researcher at the National Institute of Dental Research in the US, states that he has never found destructive gum disease in people who brush with baking soda.
Saponified olive oil (Olea europeae) – Saponified olive oil, also known as potassium olivate, is nothing more than pure cold-pressed olive oil that has undergone a reaction with sodium hydroxide. During this reaction, the olive oil turns into soap. There is no trace of sodium hydroxide in the final product. It has been completely used up to make this natural soap, which does not dry out the mucous membranes. The saponified olive oil provides the foam of this toothpaste and the deep cleansing effect between the teeth.
Essential oils (frankincense, myrrh, peppermint, tea tree, thyme) – This toothpaste is named after the main ingredient of the mix of essential oils, namely frankincense (botanical: Boswellia carterii). Frankincense is an essential oil that is distilled from the resins of the frankincense tree. In the Netherlands, frankincense is also known as wierookboom or olibanum. In the Middle East, the resin of the tree has been used for thousands of years to care for the mouth. For this purpose, people in Arab countries simply chew on the resin.
Myrrh is also an essential oil that is distilled from the resin of a tree (botanical: Commiphora myrrh). Myrrh is perhaps one of the oldest botanical medicines in the world. It is already mentioned in medical papyri from ancient Egypt.
The third ingredient in the mix is peppermint essential oil. Peppermint (botanical: Mentha piperita) is known for its fresh taste and provides long-lasting fresh breath.
Thyme chemotype linalol is a rare chemotype of thyme essential oil. This essential oil is also called sweet thyme. Like other chemotypes, it is distilled from the above-ground parts of thyme (botanical: Thymus vulgaris). In most cases, this produces a thyme essential oil of the chemotype thymol or carvacrol. Sometimes, however, another chemotype can arise under the influence of climate and soil type.
The final ingredient in the essential oil mix is tea tree (botanical: Malaleuca alternifolia). The native inhabitants of the Australian continent have used tea tree essential oil for thousands of years. It is still a very popular natural remedy there. Scientific research shows that it can also be effective in oral care. Tea tree essential oil counteracts a range of bad oral bacteria (source).
Methylsulfonylmethane ( MSM ) – Methylsulfonylmethane is an organically bound sulfur. This natural sulfur occurs in all living organisms. Sulfur is now classified as a macromineral. Macrominerals are minerals that the body needs in larger quantities on a daily basis, just like calcium, magnesium and potassium.
Kaolin clay – Kaolin, also called China clay, is a clay mineral. In the past, the clay mineral was widely used in China for making porcelain. It is a very fine type of clay with a high whiteness. The clay mineral is mined in quarries, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom.
